Description
Therapist/ Skills Trainer
Description: The Therapist is a paraprofessional who practices under the supervision of a BCBA or Master level supervisor. A therapist works with clients primarily diagnosed with developmental impairments in the home and community settings, where they work on skills specific to the client and developed by the family, BCBA and ISP. The therapist also manages aspects of a client’s case.
Minimum Requirements/ Qualifications:
• At least 18 years old
• At least one (1) year of experience in managing severe behaviors
• Registered Behavior Technician a plus
• Safety Care Certificate or Solve
• At least six (6) months of experience applying the principles of ABA
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Possesses a valid driver’s license and has reliable means of transportation
• Has a cellphone
• Pass both, National and CORI background checks
• Completes in person interview
• Strong English communication skills (ability to listen, and strong verbal communication)
• Demonstrates patience, and is able to remain neutral/ calm in crisis situations
• Able to work in a team environment, working toward same goal
• Motivated to develop professionally and learn more, goal-driven, positive attitude
• Enjoys working with people, particularly adolescents, and teens/ young adults.
Medical/ Physical Requirements:
• The position requires the therapist to be both physically ambulatory and active.
• Able to transition quickly, and without effort from floor play, to walking/ moving with client.
• Able to run with client for short distance/ short period of time
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds when necessary while working with client
• Can perform the following motions without assistance (environment permitting): push, bend, stoop, craw, walk, reach, lift, climb stairs, and run.
• Provides proof of physical/immunizations within 1 year.
Job Responsibilities:
• Provide varying degrees of instruction tailored to the needs of the client
• Applying principles of ABA and “My way” throughout instruction/ teaching ( we will provide training)
• Implements teaching strategies including but not limited to: Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT), Task
Analysis (TA), Incidental Teaching (IT), and Behavior Skills Training (BST) (We will provide training)
• At times assisting with daily living skills which may include, but are not limited personal maintenance, laundry, meal-preparation, chores etc.
• Support/ accompany client during outings in the community, recreational activities, doctor appointments
etc.
• Communicate confidentially and professionally to clients, families, team members, supervisors.
• Effectively respond to and manages crisis situations which may include client physical aggression.
• Working within client’s home ( helps client navigate daily activities, structure of session specific to the client); and provides support outside in the community depending on the needs of the client.
• Complete regular contacts with client’s family, reporting back to supervisors and other team members.
• Maintain client materials (binder, stimuli, digital devices charged , etc.)
• Assist with curriculum and program development with BCBA or Master Level Supervisor
• Assists with training other therapists if appropriate
• Attends all required team meetings and trainings when applicable
• Arrives on time and is reliable
• Two (2) weeks notice prior to personal days or vacations required
• No personal phone usage during work ( unless it is client related )
Compensation: $25/hour to $35/hour dependent upon relevant experience and training. 10hrs-20hrs weekly
