About Rewarding Work

Rewarding Work’s goal is to give people who need support both choice and control in finding caregivers. We help people connect to care—when and where they need it.

The Rewarding Work Website and related recruitment campaign has been cited as a "Promising Practice" by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Rewarding Work operates an online directory and job board to help individuals and families find and hire caregivers. Established as a non profit in 2004, Rewarding Work was the first web-based matching service directory in the nation to focus exclusively on assisting people of all ages with disabilities. That focus continues today, with Rewarding Work job candidates available to support elders, and children and adults with disabilities—at home or in the community. In 2018, Rewarding Work became an affiliate of Toward Independent Living and Learning, Inc. (TILL), a comprehensive human service agency based in Dedham, MA..

How it Works

Through our accessible, interactive website (, individuals and families can find respite, in-home and community support workers from a searchable database. The directory allows families and job applicants to match their interests and locations based on carefully designed criteria to ensure successful matches. The website also includes a job board, where individuals and families may post an ad detailing their specific job needs and receive email responses from interested applicants. The job board is free of charge to Rewarding Work subscribers..

Rewarding Work contracts with a variety of public and private partners to design programs that meet the particular needs of each state, and free subscription programs are determined by each participating state. Partners include agencies supporting developmental disabilities, respite coalitions, councils on aging, managed care organizations, and local support and advocacy groups.

Job Candidates

Rewarding Work maintains a secure database of job candidates who have completed free online applications. Workers must update their applications every three months in order to remain listed as active job candidates. Job candidates have not been pre-screened, and it is the responsibility of the person hiring the applicant to verify the applicant’s background. Rewarding Work provides useful links and tips on hiring on our website.

Employers (individuals and families who need to hire) must register and subscribe to use the Rewarding Work directory and job board. Subscriptions may be free, depending on the program parameters of the participating state. Paid subscriptions for individuals are available at affordable rates: 1 month at $10; 3 months at $25; 6 months at $50; 12 months at $90. The site also provides private agencies a resource to assist in recruitment of direct support professionals and other staff, and agency subscriptions are available at: 3 months for $90; 6 months for $150; and 12 months for $250.
