Looking for a job providing personal care or respite work in Kansas?

If you are looking for a career that provides you with the opportunity to meet new people, develop mutually rewarding relationships, and help people lead more independent lives, then being a Personal Care Worker or Respite Worker may be right for you.

Many seniors and people with disabilities of all ages need assistance with their personal care needs and daily activities such as laundry, shopping, housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation to medical providers or community activities, or other special needs. Providing care so family caregivers can have some time away from caregiving responsibilities gives them respite or a “short period of rest”.

A good personal care or respite worker – also known as a personal care attendant, aide, personal care assistant, direct care worker or direct support professional – is caring, compassionate, responsible, and patient. It is important to have a flexible and adaptive nature, be skilled at listening and communicating in an understanding manner, and be comfortable with interacting with people with disabilities and/or seniors. In addition to providing support for basic care needs, it is key to uphold the value that all individuals are entitled to respect and to have the best quality of life possible.

The Kansas Personal Care Directory is a free service for workers to help connect personal care and respite workers with seniors and people with disabilities of all ages. By completing an application for this Directory, you will have the opportunity to link with hundreds of people in your area that are looking for YOU!  Individuals and families will be able to review your profile and contact you directly.

After you complete your application, you also may review the list of job openings some individuals and families have posted.

In Kansas, you may work for private pay individuals or for people enrolled in KanCare, a program for Medicaid eligible individuals with disabilities. If you work for someone enrolled in KanCare, you will receive your paycheck from a Financial Management Services (FMS) Provider that supports people with their employment related tasks.
